IBM Support

Google BigQuery default precision for character types should be reduced

Troubleshooting

Problem

Google BigQuery has a single character data type called STRING, which is a varying length character data type.  By default the Google JDBC driver will describe the precision (size) of any STRING column as 65K.

Potentially,  a model or report expression may be computed to have a precision greater than 65K, resulting in an error from Dynamic Query.

Typically character data values may have a maximum length which is much smaller, such as 1024 or less.

Symptom

Default precision in metadata returned by the Google BigQuery JDBC driver is too large and should be reduced.
