Problem

I'm getting an error 'Cannot connect to compute server 'localhost' on port number 20502' The computer Server repository can successfully started but when launching the Event Server the log files shows 2009-01-10 10:58:51 INFO [SPSS.ES] Starting Event Server Daemon 2009-01-10 10:58:52 INFO [SPSS.ES] Connected to Compute Server on: localhost:20503 2009-01-10 10:58:53 INFO [SPSS.ES] Compute Server enabled 2009-01-10 10:58:54 INFO [SPSS.DD.FRAMEWORK] Initializing repository "ebt3c15" 2009-01-10 10:58:55 INFO [SPSS.DD.FRAMEWORK] Initializing repository "ebt3ctest" 2009-01-10 10:58:55 INFO [SPSS.DD.FRAMEWORK] Initializing repository "ebt3c15_f2" 2009-01-10 10:58:56 INFO [SPSS.ES] Event Server started 2009-01-10 10:58:56 INFO [SPSS.ES] Event Server Daemon started 2009-01-10 11:02:20 INFO [SPSS.ES] Compute Server requests shutdown 2009-01-10 11:02:20 INFO [SPSS.ES] Compute Server disabled 2009-01-10 11:02:20 INFO [SPSS.ES] Disconnected from Compute Server 2009-01-12 09:22:38 ERROR [SPSS.DD.FRAMEWORK] Authentication failed: Cannot connect to Compute Server 'localhost' on port number '20503': Connection refused Compute server is giving error ERROR: socket_gets: (MSG: 10755)[Jan 10 11:02:20] engine(client) 5: Disabling clients... Resolving The Problem

This error can be caused by a monitor tool called Nagios which checks if the 3 listener ports of Model Builder (GUI, DM and MONET) are still active.
When attempting to verify the MONET port, Model Builder cannot interpret the request from Nagios and decides to close down the server.
On the GUI port no error occurs. On the DM port an error message is posted (socket_gets), however the server does not close down.

Disabling the listener on the MONET port resolves the issue.
