Generating SNMP Trap Message from Alertable Message

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document provides instructions for generating an SNMP trap message from an alertable message and sending to an SNMP Manager.

Resolving The Problem

To generate an SNMP trap message from an alertable message and send to a SNMP Manager, do the following:

1Run the CHGMSGD command, and change the ALROPT parameter to *IMMED.
2Run the ADDCOMSNMP command to define the community name and manager Internet address.
3Run the CRTFTR command to create a filter with type *ALR.
4Run the ADDALRSLTE command to add alert selection entry. Type the filter name that you created in Step 3 and its library, selection data relationship, attribute, relational operator, value (for example, *IF *MSGID *EQ CPD26D4), sequence number, and group name.
5Run the ADDALRACNE command. Type the filter, its library (Step 3) , group name (from Step 4), and generate SNMP trap *YES.
6Run the CHGSNMPA command to specify the trap manager internet address and community name. To verify if a trap is sent, specify log traps *YES. The SNMP journal entries are in QSNMP in library QUSRSYS.
7Run the STRTCPSVR *SNMP command to start the SNMP agent job.
8Run the CHGNETA ALRSTS (*on) ALRLOGSTS (*local) ALRFTR (using the name and library of filter created in Step 3)
