GCDutil: The JDBC driver (mssgl-jdbc-10.2.0.jre8.jar) could not establish a secure connection to SQL Server by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption.

Troubleshooting

Problem

The P8 utility GCDUtil is not able to connect to the GCD database using mssgl-jdbc-10.2.0.jre8.jar.

Symptom

A P8 system will run correctly without SSL configured using MS SQL Server 2019 with mssql-jdbc-10.2.0.jre8.jar. However, GCDUtil is not able to use that same driver. When mssgl-jdbc-10.2.0.jre8.jar is placed in the GCDUtil folder location and configured in rungcdutil.bat, running any GCDUtil command fails with:

The driver could not establish a secure connection to SQL Server by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption. Error: "com.ibm.jsse2.util.j: PKIX path building failed: com.ibm.security.cert.IBMCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target". ClientConnectionId:00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

Please double check the URL provided, and ensure that the database is running
