IBM Support

FTP users unable to store data sets on the server

Troubleshooting

Problem

FTP users are unable to store data sets on the FTP server. All attempts fail with reply 550 STOR fails: data.set.name. User not authorized.

Symptom

FTP users are unable to store or put files to the FTP server. The FTP server will reply with a 550 reply, indicating that the user is not authorized to store the data. The SAF product might log access failures to volume FTPFTP.

Cause

The FTP server will use dummy volume name FTPFTP when checking a user's authority to create a data set. If the user is not authorized to volume FTPFTP, the request will fail.

Environment

Users running CA Top Secret have reported this error.

Resolving The Problem

Authorize all users who need to create data sets via the FTP server to have CREATE access to the FTPFTP volume. Refer to your SAF provider's documentation for command syntax.
