FrangoVFP.DLL & VFPCOM.DLL are not correctly registered on brand new servers, caused by missing MSVCR71.dll

Troubleshooting

Problem

Customer creates brand new server (new installation of Windows). Administrator does not install any other software. Administrator installs Controller server. During testing, errors occur related to faulty/missing/unregistered VFPCOM.DLL. Why does this happen?

Symptom

For examples of symptoms/errors, see separate IBM Technotes #1347488 & 1367434.

Cause

Code production problem in the Controller installation routine.

  • This caused the routine to mistakenly try to register FrangoVFP.DLL before it had successfully registered the required component MSVCR71.dll (inside windows\system32 or syswow64).

Environment

Brand-new server (which has never had Controller server installed, and also has very little or no other software installed).

Resolving The Problem

Workaround:

See separate IBM Technotes #1347488 & 1367434.

Fix:

This issue is fixed from Controller 10.2 onwards.
