Forcing a Joblog for Batch Jobs

Troubleshooting

Problem

This note describes how to force joblogs for batch jobs.

Resolving The Problem

Job logs can be forced or ensured for batch jobs by ensuring that the job is running with the text parameter of its Message logging level (set of three parameters) set to *SECLVL. To enable the greatest amount of logging of information in the job's job log, the Message logging parameters should be set to 4, 0, *SECLVL and the Log CL program commands (LOGCLPGM ) to  *YES. These can be set explicitly by a job via the CHGJOB command or it can be set explicitly by the SBMJOB command that submits the job. Normally, the values for these parameters for a job will come from the job description that the job is running with (which is the default on the SBMJOB command).
