FNRCE0010E: E_BAD_VALUE error when setting 256-bit encryption for regular and Advanced Storage Areas

Troubleshooting

Problem

When creating a new storage area and enabling 256-bit encryption, the creation will fail with the following error: com.filenet.api.exception.EngineRuntimeException: FNRCE0010E: E_BAD_VALUE: The value given for a property or list element lies outside the permitted range or value set, or exceeds the maximum length allowed. The EncryptionKey property value has a length of "24" bytes and is consequently not valid. Specify a new property value with a length of 16 bytes

Cause

Program error prevents the encryption key from being set to the correct size.

Diagnosing The Problem

The process will only fail when creating a brand new storage area with 256-bit encryption enabled. The exact error message as described above appears as a pop-up error in ACCE and in the p8 server logs.

Resolving The Problem

The problem will be fixed in 5.2.1.6-P8CPE-FP006. The problem can be worked around by setting the encryption to none or 128-bit encryption during creation, and then editing the storage area to increase the encryption to 256-bit, which will succeed.
