"Flexlm Error -9. Invalid host" at import license key

Troubleshooting


Problem

Import of a license key for an IBM Rational product results in "Unable to obtain a product license".

Symptom

For example, you get the following error message.


Failed to check out a key for rose_cpp_windows:
Flexlm Error -9, Invalid host - Unable to obtain a product license.
Flexlm Error -15, Cannot connect to license server

In this example, the IBM Rational product is Rational Rose C++.


Cause

This error can appear in different scenarios.


  • The generated license key uses the wrong host ID format.

  • The host ID, that you used to generate the key, is incorrect.

  • Your disk partition has two disk serial numbers.

Resolving The Problem

Use the Media Access Control (MAC) address or ethernet address instead of the disk serial number to generate the license key.


First, return your existing key to the license key center and regenerate it again. The following technote describes how to do that.
