Problem
Attempts to use an IBM Rational product on a virtual machine. result in a Flexlm Error -2 or Flexlm Error -15.
Symptom
You use a Rational product on a virtual machine. You generated the license key and imported into the physical machine based on the disk serial number of that physical machine.
Once you switch on to the virtual machine, and you want to use your software, you get the following error. This happens even when.
- The server in the virtual machine looks the same.
- The server has the same configuration as the physical server.
- The server has with same IP address.
- The server has the same name.
Failed to check out a key for (product name):
Flexlm Error -2,invalid license file syntax OR no licenses in file.
Flexlm Error -15, Cannot connect to license server.
You might also get the following error.
No license features on server ( server name).Flexlm Error -97, The desired vendor daemon is down.
Cause
Despite the fact that the server name and IP address of the virtual machine are the same, the disk serial number is different and therefore the license sever does not recognize the license key.
Environment
Resolving The Problem
Return this license key to the license key center and get a new license using the correct host data of your new server.
To make sure you use the right host data, you can do the following:
- Open the license key administrator.
- Click License keys > Host data and get the required information.
Note: If the virtual machine has a invalid disk serial number, use the MAC address instead of disk serial number.
