Problem
When launching an IBM® Rational® product you might encounter the error, FLEXlm Error -18, License server does not support this feature. This technote provides a resolution to this Licensing error for all IBM Rational products.
Cause
The full error message that is encountered when opening an IBM Rational product is as follows:
Failed to check out a key for <Product Name> FLEXlm Error -18, License server does not support this feature.
One possible cause is that the SuiteMap2 registry key is incomplete or otherwise corrupt.
Resolving The Problem
You can force the IBM Rational License Key Administrator to rewrite the SuiteMap2 registry key in Microsoft® Windows® by performing the following steps:
- Access Start > Run..., type in Regedit and click OK
- Navigate to and delete the following two Registry Keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rational Software\Licensing\1.0\SuiteMap2
- Exit the Windows Registry
- Open the IBM Rational License Key Administrator
- Access Settings > License Usage Mapper
Note: This step regenerates the SuiteMap2 registry key in the Windows Registry.
- Optional: Set the License mapping according to the individual user's needs.
If the entries within the License Usage Mapper appear blank. - Close the License Key Administrator
- Lauch the IBM Rational Software application
NOTE: The application may not open prior to setting the proper license mapping. However, this action will re-populate the License Usage Order list and allow license usage configuration. - Close the IBM Rational License Key Administrator
The FLEXlm -18 error should now be resolved and you should be able to use the IBM Rational product successfully.
