Flexible Service Processor (FSP) based nodes may not support remote presence console - IBM Flex System

Symptom

Some Flexible Service Processor (FSP) based compute nodes may not be able to launch the remote presence web console like Integrated Management Module (IMM) blades can. The Chassis Management Module (CMM) web interface returns the following message:

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

• Flex System p24L Compute Node, type 1457, any model
• Flex System p260 Compute Node, type 7895, any model
• Flex System p460 Compute Node, type 7895, any model

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

• Flex System Chassis Management Module, Option part number 68Y7029, replacement part number (CRU) 68Y7032

This tip is not software specific.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution

This behavior will be corrected in a future release of FSP firmware.

The target date for this release is scheduled for fourth quarter 2012.

The file will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

Instead of attempting to use the CMM "Launch compute node console" feature to launch the Power compute node FSP's Advanced System Management Interface (ASMI), direct a web browser to the FSP's Internet Protocol (IP) address using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer (HTTPS) protocol.

Additional information

The CMM web interface obtains the URL and login credentials from the Flex System Manager (FSM) and simply opens another browser window to open the URL. If the credentials cannot be obtained, the remote control window cannot be launched.
