Problem

IBM Flex system x222 compute node does not initialize in Flex chassis with Chassis Management Module (CMM) firmware prior to GA4 (Build ID: 2PET12D). The following error message is displayed in the CMM system event log: Node node # failed initial provisioning

Symptom

IBM Flex system x222 compute node does not initialize in Flex chassis with Chassis Management Module (CMM) firmware prior to GA4 (Build ID: 2PET12D). The following error message is displayed in the CMM system event log:

  Node node # failed initial provisioning

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • Flex System x222 Compute Node, type 7916, any model

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • Flex System Chassis Management Module, Option part number 68Y7029, any replacement part number (CRU)

This tip is not software specific.

Solution

Update the Chassis Management Module (CMM) firmware to build ID: 2PET12D (version 1.50) or later.
