FlashCopy Manager MMC snap-in cannot be loaded

Resolving The Problem

Follow the steps below to work around this problem:

1. Ensure the pre-requisite Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is installed for FlashCopy Manager v2.2.x and Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile is installed for FlashCopy Manager v3.1

2. Only perform this step if the computer is running Windows 2003.

Open a windows command prompt and issue: mmcperf

This is normally performed by the setup program and only needs to be done one time.

3. Register the FlashCopy Manager snap-in manually using InstallUtil.exe.

Important: the correct version of installutil.exe must be used or the snap-in will not work. The correct version depends on two things: whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit, and whether it's for .NET 4 or if it's for an earlier version of the .NET framework.

a) Start in the FlashCopy Manager folder (update the path to match your environment if needed).

cd /d "c:\program files\tivoli\flashcopymanager"

b) Register the snap-in using the correct version of installutil.exe.


For FlashCopy Manager v.2.2.x (.NET 3.5 SP1)

32-bit :Windows:

C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\InstallUtil.exe FmUx.dll /LogFile=FCM.txt

64-bit :Windows:

C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\InstallUtil.exe FmUx.dll /LogFile=FCM.txt

For FlashCopy Manager v3.1.x (.NET 4)

32-bit :Windows:

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\installutil fm.ux.dll /LogFile=FCM.txt

64-bit :Windows:

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\installutil fm.ux.dll /LogFile=FCM.txt

4. If the console output shows a successful installation, perform the following to see if the MMC snap-in can be started.

From the Windows Start menu select:

Tivoli FlashCopy Manager | FlashCopy Manager Management Console
