Abstract

During unpredictable runtime conditions, backup of Microsoft 365 OneDrive files might require the operation be tried again. However, the backup operation is not tried again, leading to undetectable corruption of the backup copy. This issue is documented in APAR IT35781.

Problem Description
During backup of Microsoft 365 OneDrive files, IBM Spectrum Protect does not correctly handle errors returned by the Microsoft gateway that require the backup to be tried again. When such an error occurs, the backup is not tried again, and the affected file is saved in a corrupted state. No error message is logged, and the backup status is successful.
The corruption is not detectable until the file is restored. The restore fails with the following messages:
CTGGR0035 Task ended with status: partial.
CTGGA4093 The execution of the command stopped because an internal timeout was triggered. A command timeout may be an indicator of hung processes or other problems with the operating system on the application server.
Levels Affected
Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.5.x, 10.1.6.x, and 10.1.7.x
Immediate Action
Install IBM Spectrum Protect Plus version 10.1.8.
After version 10.1.8 is installed, the next backup of Microsoft Office 365 OneDrive automatically checks each file to determine whether that file's backup copy is affected by this problem.
If the backup version is affected, that version cannot be restored.
If the backup version is affected, a new backup is created if the original file still exists on OneDrive.
If the original file no longer exists on OneDrive, then it cannot be backed up again.
Any older (affected) backup versions cannot be restored.

Fix
The problem is fixed in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.8.
