Content
Attempts to update firmware on Power10 systems that use the HMC GUI might log HSCF0180E and E302F854 errors. In addition, the FSP logs a B181303F, which can be viewed in the error logs in ASMI. The following screen capture shows an example of the error.

The issue is due to a bad timestamp in the installed image, causing a B181303F error during the update process. This issue affects firmware update exclusively and will be fixed in the next firmware release. The error exists in currently available levels, and can be encountered attempting to install an image with the fix.
The issue can be avoided by reattempting the firmware update ensuring that the option to "Automatically backup the temporary flash side firmware to the permanent flash side, prior to update, when allowed" is selected as shown in the following screen captures.
This option uses a different code update path and avoids the firmware issue. Future HMC code selects the option by default, as it is the preferred default firmware update path.
