Finding if the Last IPL was an Attended IPL

Troubleshooting


Problem

This document discusses how to check if the last IPL was an attended IPL.

Resolving The Problem

If you need to know if the last IPL was an attended IPL (in other words, perhaps because some PTFs did not apply), follow these steps:

1. Sign on the IBM OS/400, i5/OS or i.

2. Print the report on time spent during the last IPL:

CALL PGM(QSYS/QWCCRTEC)

Press the Enter key.

3. Display the report generated by program QSYS/QWCCRTEC:

DSPSPLF FILE(QPSRVDMP) SPLNBR(*LAST)

Press the Enter key.

4. Look at the report for the date and time corresponding to the XPF PWRDWN phase and write it down:

5. Query the system history log looking for messages CPF0905 (Attended IPL in progress) and CPF0997 (Attended IPL after
abnormal system ending), beginning at the date and time that match with the XPF PWRDWN phase:

DSPLOG PERIOD(('17:31:00' '01/13/09')) MSGID(CPF0905 CPF0997)

Press the Enter key.

6. You will see something like this:

7 Finally, if you press F1 over the message, you will see message details:
