Troubleshooting
Problem
The file server host server is limited to files under 2GB in size at V5R4 and prior. At V6R1 and newer, the file system limits for different file systems are used by the file server host server.
Resolving The Problem
The QPWFSERVSO job handles TCP/IP socket connections to the IBM i file server.
The QPWFSERVSS job handles SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) connections to the IBM i file server.
Popular clients that use these jobs include: QFileSvr.400 file system, Navigator for IBM i, ACS Integrated File System function, and IBM Toolbox for Java IFS* classes.
In System i operating system V5R4 and earlier, the file server host server was limited to handling files under 2 gigabytes (GB) in size. Any client using this server was limited to file sizes under 2GB even though the file system that was being used might support larger files.
Starting with System i operating system V6R1, the File Server Host Server limit was lifted. The newer limits are those of the file system itself. For instance, if the file server job is copying a file between QDLS file systems on two IBM i computers, then the maximum size of a document is 2GB because that is the maximum file size for QDLS. Likewise, copying a stream file between two QOpenSys file systems, the maximum size of a stream file is 1TB because that is the maximum file size limit for QOpenSys.

Note 1: The Navigator for IBM i (iSeries Navigator, System i Navigator, iNAV) is limited to 2GB file size at ALL releases. Any attempt to Copy-n-Paste files that are greater than 2GB in size will fail and result in the following message:
The operation failed. Verify that your connection is working and that you have proper authority for the operation.

Note 2: Trying to copy files 2GB or larger using V7R1 IBM i Navigator, or V6R1 System i Navigator, may result in "Access denied." message.
