When updating Integrated Management Module (IMM) firmware via the Command Line Interface (CLI), the system may display the following error message:

This error is expected to occur very infrequently.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3690 X5, type 7148, any model
- System x3690 X5, type 7149, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7145, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7146, any model
- System x3950 X5, type 7145, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The following system firmware level(s) are affected:
- IMM yuoo75t
Solution
This behavior is fixed in IMM firmware 91E or newer.
The file is available by selecting the appropriate Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:
Workaround
One of the following two (2) workarounds should be performed:
Workaround 1:
Reboot the IMM. |
Workaround 2:
Update using the standard package from within the Operating System (OS). |
Additional information
The root cause of the issue is the IMM thinks that another flash update is in progress. Flash update methods performed within the OS avoid the issue because they use a different process method for flashing.
