Facsimile Support for iSeries: Damaged Objects

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document provides information on possible causes of faxes not being sent through Facsimile Support for iSeries after a power loss or abnormal end to the product or system.

Resolving The Problem

When there is a power loss or abnormal end for the Facsimile Support for iSeries product or system, there is a risk of objects being damaged. If faxes are not sending through Facsimile Support for iSeries after such a situation, you should look in the FAXMSTCTL job log for any messages indicating damaged objects. Objects that are prone to being damaged are the QFFSNDFAX user queue, the QFQSDQ data queue, and the QFFTLOGDQ data queue.

Use the following process to look at the FAXMSTCTL job log:

WRKJOB JOB(FAXMSTCTL)
o If presented with a Select Job screen, select the Active job if available; otherwise, select the first job in OUTQ status.
o If an active job was selected, select Option 10 to Display the job log.
o If a job in OUTQ status was selected, select Option 4 to Work with spooled files; then select Option 5 to Display the job log.

Look for messages, such as message MCH1604: System object <object> damaged.

If there is one job that is not starting or ending after the start look for its joblog. Example of this would be WRKJOB JOB(FAXD0nAA). We have seen that the FAXD0nA DTAQ can be damaged on a power hit also.

Once the object has been identified, do the following to correct the issue:

1.End Facsimile Support and Enhanced Services using the following command:

ENDFAXSPT FAXD(*ALL) ENHSRV(*YES)

and press Enter.

Make sure both the QFAXSBS and QFQSBS subsystems have ended. You may need to end the jobs in the subsystems if they do not end after a few minutes.
2a.Issue the appropriate command to delete the damaged object(s) identified from the FAXMSTCTL job log:

o If the QFFSNDFAX user queue is damaged: DLTUSRQ USRQ(QUSRSYS/QFFSNDFAX)
o If the QFQSDQ data queue is damaged: DLTDTAQ DTAQ(QUSRSYS/QFQSDQ)
o If the QFFTLOGDQ data queue is damaged: DLTDTAQ DTAQ(QGPL/QFFTLOGDQ)
2b.If the FAXD0nAA job shows that there is a damaged dtaq: DLTDTAQ DTAQ(FAXD0nA).
3.Restart Facsimile Support and Enhanced Services using the following command:

STRFAXSPT FAXD(FAXD01) ENHSRV(*YES) where FAXD01 is the name of the configured fax controller(s).

and press Enter.

The deleted objects will be re-created when Facsimile Support is restarted.
