F9 does not work (Excel spreadsheet does not update/run) unless user logged into Controller Excel link

Troubleshooting

Problem

User launches Excel, but does NOT logon (authenticate) to the Controller Excel add-in.

- User opens a spreadsheet. User presses F9.

- The user expects that the spreadsheet/report should run. However, nothing happens (the values do not change).

Symptom

Example:

Imagine a scenario where

- User creates a new workbook, and creates a simple Excel summation

- User changes Excel 'Calculations' to be 'Manual'

- User changes a value (within the summation range) and presses F9 (on their keyboard)

=> User sees the "Analyzing sheet, please wait....." message. However, it does not change the value of the formula! (bad)

If a user now:

- clicks on the 'Controller' add-in

- clicks 'Log On', and logs onto Controller

- then press F9

=> This time the formula value updates/changes correctly (good)

If the user now:

- Logs off from Controller Excel add-in (by clicking 'Log Off' inside add-in menu bar), but keeps Excel open/running (same Excel session)
- Changes a value within the summation range

=> The formula value changes/updates as expected (correctly) (good)
