IBM Support

Extending the services IP range

How To

Summary

As of IBM Cloud Private v3.1.0, the default the service IP range is 10.0.0.1/16. This is the maximum range of Kubernetes and cannot be increased. However, if your cluster was upgraded it may have retained the former default range of 10.0.0.1/24 and you may be seeing errors such as:

Error: release <release-name> failed: Internal error occurred: failed to allocate a serviceIP: range is full

The range 10.0.0.1/24 contains 255 IPs, which means you can create 255 service resources only. IBM Cloud Private uses a few of these IPs for management services. If the available number of IPs cannot meet the requirements of your cluster, you can extend the service IP range to a maximum of 10.0.0.1/16.
