IBM Support

EXPORT NODE cannot merge filespaces if an existing export is suspended.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Tivoli Storage Manager EXPORT NODE using MERGE=YES is unable to merge client files on the target server.

Symptom

When exporting client files to another server using the EXPORT NODE command, the MERGEfilespaces option can be used. This option is used to specify if the client files will be merged into an existing filespace on the target server.

Despite the MERGE=YES option being specified, Tivoli Storage Manager may be unable to merge the filespaces. If Tivoli Storage Manager cannot merge the filespace, it will instead create a new filespace for the client data on the target server.

Cause

The EXPORT NODE operation is unable to merge the filespace if there is an existing (but suspended) export already in progress.

Resolving The Problem

Use the QUERY EXPORT command to determine if there is already an export suspended for the node and filespace. If there is, use the CANCEL EXPORT command to cancel it, or the RESTART EXPORT command to restart it.
