Problem

Disabling of the execute disable bit through F1 Setup is getting re-enabled by Microsoft Windows 2012. Windows 2012 will run only on No Execute (NX)-capable processors and NX must be enabled. The requirement in documented here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware This is the expected behavior in Windows 2012 and this Tip is to ensure user awareness.

Symptom

Disabling of the execute disable bit through F1 Setup is getting re-enabled by Microsoft Windows 2012.

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3500 M4, type 7383, any model

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012, any service pack

This tip is not option specific.
