Excel link spreadsheet reports do not work (all cells change to '#VALUE!' after running report) if their filename contains an apostrophe

Troubleshooting

Problem

User launches Excel, and logs onto the Controller Excel link. User opens spreadsheet (XLSX file). User presses F9 to run the report. The report appears to start running normally. After a length of time (for example 30 seconds) all the cells (containing fGetVal formulae) change to show: #VALUE!

Symptom

#VALUE! #VALUE! #VALUE! #VALUE! #VALUE!

#VALUE! #VALUE! #VALUE! #VALUE! #VALUE!

#VALUE! #VALUE! #VALUE! #VALUE! #VALUE!

Cause

Defect (reference APAR PI48774) in Controller.

  • This is triggered when the filename contains an apostrophe (') in it.

Resolving The Problem

Fix:
Upgrade to Controller 10.3.1 (10.3.1100.156) or later.

Workaround:

Rename the spreadsheet report's file (XLSX filename) so that it does not contain any 'strange' characters (for example an apostrophe ' ).
