Example of Forward Capacity Matching
Answer
Example of Forward Capacity Matching
The following example shows how Sterling TMS processesthe forward capacity matching rule:
- You set the maximum time allowed setting to 3.5 hours (210 minutes).
- Sterling TMS findsthe following shipments in the system.
- Shipment 1 is scheduled to arrive in Elgin Illinois between 7a.m. and 9 a.m. on 15 August.
- Shipment 2 is scheduled to depart from Chicago between 1 p.m.and 3 p.m. on 15 August.
- The distance between the two locations is 38 miles.
- Sterling TMS calculatesthe time between the two shipments as follows:
- Subtract the 9 a.m. arrival time for Shipment 1 from the 1 p.m.departure time for Shipment 2. The difference is 4 hours (240 minutes).
- Divide the 38 miles between the two locations by 45 miles perhour. The result is 0.85 hours (51 minutes) of transit time.
- Subtract the 51 in-transit minutes from the 240 minutes betweenShipment 1 and Shipment 2. The difference is 189 minutes (3.15 hours).
- The 3.15 hours between shipments is less than the 3.5 hours specifiedas the maximum time allowed setting. As a result the shipment meetsthis part of the criteria in the Forward Capacity Matching rule.
