Event-driven FTP

Question & Answer

Question

Event-driven FTP

Answer

Event-driven FTP

Event-drivenFTP is an optional service for which the FTP gateway initiates a connectionto your server to deliver a file when it is loaded to your mailslot.

Customers must have an FTP server to use this service and mustprovide the following information to the Network Implementation team:

  • IP address or host name needed to connect to your server
  • Port number (if using a non-standard port)
  • Server logon ID and password
  • Firewall logon ID and password (if necessary)
  • Preferred naming convention for transferred files
  • Additional parameters if necessary (for example changing directoriesafter logging on)
Note: If the FTP gateway cannot connect to your server and if thecondition cannot be resolved quickly you can log on to the FTP gatewayfrom any FTP client to pull all queued files from your mailslot. Noprior setup is required to enable this Business Recovery feature.

When using Event-driven FTP you have more flexibility in formattingfile names sent from FTP gateway. Long file names are supported and Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork canmake each file name unique by embedding a date and time stamp withinthe file name.

Each mailslot on Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork canbe configured to deliver files to a different directory or server. For example production interchanges can be delivered to the /EDI directoryon a your server network reports to the /Reports directoryand test interchanges to a different server.
