Question
ETA Display
Answer
ETA Display
Shippers and carriers can use the estimated time of arrival(ETA) to keep track of when shipments are due to arrive. This featureimproves scheduling and avoids backups at your docks.
Sterling TMS usestwo ways to indicate estimated times of arrival (ETAs):
- Carrier ETAs
- Calculated ETAs
Your Sterling TMS administratorcan define alerts that are sent if an ETA is beyond the delivery appointmentor planned arrival window.
Carrier ETAs
Carrier ETAs are displayedin the Arrival column in Execution and are flagged with an E. Theoriginal planned arrival time is displayed in the Planned Arrivalcolumn so you can compare the original time to the updated ETA. TheETA is replaced in the Arrival column only when the actual arrivaltime is entered by the shipper or carrier.
Carriershave two options for submitting ETAs:
- Send EDI 214 transactions
- Enter the ETA online in Execution
Calculated ETAs
Calculated ETAs are displayedon the Notes/History page. Sterling TMS uses the followingprocess to calculates ETAs:
- Sterling TMS determinesthe distance between the origin and the destination. Sterling TMS uses the practicaldistance provided by the shipper mileage source (MileMaker or PC Miler).
- Sterling TMS usesan average driving speed of 45 miles per hour.
- Sterling TMS calculatesthe hours of service as 11 hours on and 10 hours off.
