Problem
An "Error: ZUI_50831: WebSphere Application Server product install packages cannot be found from specified path. Verify the specified path and the authentication information and try again." is received when attempting to install IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.0 or later with the IBM Web Administration for i console.
Symptom
Error: ZUI_50831: WebSphere Application Server product install packages cannot be found from specified path. Verify the specified path and the authentication information and try again.
Cause
"Support extended media formats" is set to *NO for the IBM i server's optical attributes.
Environment
IBM i, IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM Web Administration for i console
Resolving The Problem
If the message "Error: ZUI_50831: WebSphere Application Server product install packages cannot be found from specified path. Verify the specified path and the authentication information and try again." is displayed after clicking "Next" on step 3 (Specify Product Install Packages Location) during the "Install WebSphere Application Server" wizard in the IBM Web Administration for i console, you will need to change your IBM i server's optical attributes so that "Support extended media formats" is set to *YES. Then, either eject and reinsert your DVD in the optical drive or vary off and then vary on your virtual optical drive to implement the optical attribute.
You can verify your current optical attributes by prompting the command "CHGOPTA" with an F4.
Here is an example of when the extended media format support is set to *NO.
Change Optical Attributes (CHGOPTA)
Type choices, press Enter.
Copy attributes . . . . . . . . *YES *SAME, *YES, *NO
Held file attribute . . . . . . *YES *SAME, *YES, *NO
Allow variant characters . . . . *NO *SAME, *YES, *NO
Support extended media formats *NO *SAME, *YES, *NO
Here are the steps that need to be taken to resolve the issue:
1) Execute the following CL command.
CHGOPTA EXTMEDFMT(*YES)
2) Perform one of the following depending on whether you are using the physical optical device or a virtual optical device.
- Virtual Optical Device (OPTVRT01) - Vary off the device and then vary it back on.
- WRKCFGSTS CFGTYPE(*DEV) CFGD(*OPT)
Enter option 2 to vary the device off.
Enter option 1 to vary the device on.
