Resolving The Problem
Source
RETAIN tip: H206591
Symptom
The error listed here will be encountered in the conditions described:
| Error while trying to check for restore configuration status. |
This occurs if:
- Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer (HTTPS)
protocol is used (instead of Hypertext Transfer Protocol
(HTTP))
- Running Initial Configuration Wizard
- Reaching 'import existing configuration' step on the wizard
There are multiple ways of running the Initial Configuration Wizard:
- Logging in for the first time
- Logging in after resetting Chassis Management Module (CMM) to
factory defaults
- Clicking on Initial Setup Wizard button from main
menu, Mgt Module Management,
Configuration
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 7893, any model
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 8721, any model
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 8724, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- Flex System Chassis Management Module, Option part number 68Y7029, any replacement part number (CRU)
This tip is not software specific.
The Build ID: 2PET10I and earlier firmware for the CMM is affected.
The system has the symptom described above.
Solution
This behavior was fixed in CMM firmware version 1.40.0K Build ID: 2PET10K.
The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:
Workaround
This workaround offers users a possibility of running the Web Wizard and avoiding the previously mentioned error:
- Temporarily configure the web to use HTTP.
- Connect through Command Line Interface (CLI) (telnet/Secure
Shell (SSH)), then issue these commands:
system> env -T MM[P] OK
system:MM[1]> ports -HTTPse off OK - Open the browser and connect through HTTP. When the wizard is
used, it will not generate the error.
- After this step, continue using HTTPS by issuing these commands
from CLI (telnet/SSH):
system> env -T MM[P] OK
system:MM[1]> ports -HTTPse on OK
Additional information
The issue is caused by the configuration file containing the following command, which re-generates every Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate and then restarts all services that use them:
| sslcfg -gen ca |
This includes the web server, which is going to use a different certificate after it restarts, so the initial handshake between the browser and CMM is no longer valid. As a consequence, the user's browser no longer will be able to issue any new Ajax requests to CMM and will report an error for each such trial.
