Question
For remote DB2® Document Manager Desktops to access the DB2 Document Manager server on a Windows® 2003 Service Pack (SP) 1 machine, you must enable remote connections.
Cause
Windows 2003 SP1 does not enable remote COM connections by default.
Answer
Manually enable the remote COM connections by performing the following steps.
Important: You need access to both the Windows 2003 installation and the Windows 2003 SP1 installation because certain files are needed from both installations.
Enable Application Server Role
1. Run the Configure Your Server Wizard: Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Configure your server wizard.
2. Click Next until you get to the Server Role window.
3. Highlight the Application Server (IIS, ASP.Net) row, then click Next.
4. Make sure Frontpage Server Extensions or Enable ASP .NET are not selected on the Application Server Options window. Click Next.
5. Click Next on the Summary window.
6. You are prompted for the Windows 2003 and SP1 installation disk directory.
Important: After the Remote Access options are installed, you can disable the Internet Information Service (IIS) using the Windows Services utility if you do not want IIS running on the DB2 Document Manager server. Disable the services for World Wide Web Publishing service and the IIS Admin Service.
Modify Component Services to allow anonymous access
1. The Component Services utility is available from the Windows Start -> Administrative Tools -> Component Services. Launch the utility and then expand the Component Services tree until My Computer is visible.
2. Right click My Computer and select Properties.
3. Click the COM Security tab.
4. Click Edit Limits under Access Permission's.
a. Make sure ANONYMOUS LOGON has Allow access for Local Access and Remote Access.
b. Click OK.
5. Click Edit Limits under Launch and Activation Permission's.

Select Enable Distributed COM on this computer. 8. Click OK. Solution: Enable the settings using the Component Services utility. Problem: I received a Server not Found Error on the DB2 Document Manager Desktop when it tries to connect to the DB2 Document Manager server. In the Windows Event Viewer log there is an error indicating that COM+ is not enabled. Cause: The COM+ components are not enabled. Solution: Enable the COM+ components using the Configure Your Server Wizard. |
