Error: The specified module could not be found while attempting to load CS library

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote explains how to resolve an error, The specified module could not be found, while attempting to load CS library, that can occur when using IBM® Rational® TestManager (TM) withh Microsoft® SQL Server.

Symptom

Full text of the error:

The specified module could not be found while attempting to load CS library: /C=/Program Files/Rational/Rational Test/shlib/sql/libsqlserver.dll [13.3.6.103]: A required DLL was not found, make sure that the sqlserver client software is installed and accessible via the PATH environment variable. *** RTmaster User Termination Count(s) Exceeded: Total, Abnormal

Cause

The user more than likely does not have a SQL Server client installed or this is something odd about its installation.

Resolving The Problem

This error is know to occur if the client does not have a SQL Server client installed.

The key file is ntwdblib.dll.

Typically this file is found in C:\WINDOWS\System32. If the dll only exists in %RATL_RTHOME% (the Program Files\Rational\Rational Test folder on the local drive on which TestManager is installed), it will not work because the %RATL_RTHOME% version is just a non-working stub.
