Problem

Attempting to open a window that uses Java from controller classic from certain effected workstations returns the error:

image-20240607135051-2

Clicking on Details we see the following message (the exact message withe line concerning unable to find valid certification path to requested target is expected to be repeated and lower in the error):
com.ibm.cognos.ccr.integration.IntegrationFacadeException: org.eclipse.core.runtime.adaptor.EclipseStarter failed!at
....

path building failed: com.ibm.security.cert.IBMCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target

Symptom

Workstations effected are unable to open windows that require Java in Controller classic.
This is more likely to be encountered when the controller application server is installed on a different network that is not trusted. Controller on Cloud environment are more likely effected as they are hosted in IBM cloud servers.
