"An error occurred while trying to access the server" launching client, when using 'Windows Authentication' (direct), solved by changing IIS authentication (for 'controllerserver') from 'native' to 'Windows'

Troubleshooting


Problem

User launches Controller client. An error appears.

Symptom

After the user launches the Controller client, the 'Native' logon screen appears:

This is unexpected (wrong). Instead the user expects the system to use Windows Authentication (therefore single sign-on) which would therefore not show this 'Native' logon screen.
 
If the user types in any username/password, then the following error appears:
