Symptom

When AIX is being loaded on a BladeCenter JS12 and BladeCenter JS22 blade that has a 4X InfiniBand (IB) DDR option installed, the following message appears on the AMM System Status webpage:

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

• BladeCenter JS12, type 7998, any model
• BladeCenter JS22, type 7998, any model

The following system firmware level(s) are affected:

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

• Voltaire InfiniBand HCA 400EX - model 501S12317 PCIe

This tip is not software specific.

Solution

This behavior will be corrected in a future release of firmware.

The target date for this release is scheduled for fourth quarter 2008.

Workaround

The 4X InfiniBand (IB) DDR card is still functional when the "The Service Request Number is BA280000 Platform Firmware Unrecovered Error, general. Refer to the system service documentation for more information" message appears. This message should be ignored.

Additional information

This message appears because AIX is attempting to change Message Signaled Interrupts (MSIs) on an adapter that does not support MSIs.
