Problem
When starting IBM Installation Manager, you receive the message: "Error restoring Installation Manager state. Installation data has incompatible version 0.0.4; expected [0.0.2,0.0.3]. Newer version of the Installation Manager was used on this system."
Cause
You have Installation Manager version 1.3.3 or earlier installed. You start the installation of Installation Manager 1.3.4 or later and then stop the installation before Installation Manager is updated. You receive the error when starting Installation Manager.
The following scenario can cause this issue to occur:
1. Install an IBM product and Installation Manager version 1.3.3.
2. From the Launchpad, start the installation of another IBM product that is packaged with Installation Manager version 1.3.4.
3. Cancel the installation before Installation Manager finishes updating to version 1.3.4.
When you start Installation Manager, you receive the error message.
Starting Installation Manager version 1.3.4 and later causes Installation Manager to immediately convert the registry to a version that is incompatible with earlier versions of Installation Manager. If the Installation Manager update is not completed, the earlier version of Installation Manager is not synchronized with the registry and results in the error.
Resolving The Problem
To workaround this issue, you must update Installation Manager to version 1.3.4.1 or later using a platform specific installer package. The name of a platform specific installer package for Installation Manager is agent.installer.platform.zip where platform indicates the operating system.
Download the latest installer package from IBM Support Portal. Select the Installation Manager links from
Look for entries with the title 'IBM Installation Manager, version" where version is the version number.
After you download the platform specific installer package, take the following steps:
1. Extract the compressed file to a directory.
2. Complete one of these steps:
a. For a GUI based installation, run install.exe on Windows or install on Linux® and UNIX® systems.
b. For a silent installation, open a command prompt to the directory where you extracted the installer package. Run the command:
Windows: installc --launcher.ini silent-install.ini
Linux and UNIX systems: ./install --launcher.ini silent-install.ini
The error does not occur after updating Installation Manager to version 1.3.4.1 or later.
