Problem

This technote explains how to resolve an Execution of a hook failed error, access denied, that could occur during the action Submit in IBM® Rational® ClearQuest®.

Symptom

After applying a hook to the schema and testing work, the following error can occur when trying to submit a new Defect record:

ERROR! Execution of a hook failed during the action Submit. It was the FIELD_CHOICE_LIST hook of the field Owner, attached to the defect "TEST00000001". The reason for the failure was:Unable to logon to the SQL_SERVER database "SAMPL".
The vendor error message was:
SQLDriverConect: RETCODE=-1, State=08001, Native Error=17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect())
