"Error during "install" phase" at end of Rational Robot installation on Windows 7

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempts to install IBM Rational Robot 7.0.3 on Microsoft Windows 7 result in the error "Registration of "C:\Windows\assembly\Interop.mscoree.dll" assembly failed."

Symptom

The full error message is as follows:



Error during "install" phase:

  Registration of "C:\Windows\assembly\Interop.mscoree.dll" assembly failed.

 Exception thrown in regSvc.RegisterAssembly(...AssemblyRegistrationFlags.None):

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the registry key 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{3F281000-E95A-11D2-886B-00C04F869F04}' is denied.

   at Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey.Win32Error(Int32 errorCode, String str)

   at Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey.CreateSubKey(String subkey, RegistryKeyPermissionCheck permissionCheck, RegistrySecurity registrySecurity)

You see this message in the Details in the IBM Installation Manager.

Cause

Rational Robot 7.0.3.x does not install .NET domain support properly on Windows 7.

Resolving The Problem

Start the installation procedure without the .NET Support option.



If you need .NET Support, do the following steps. The steps include the implementation of the .NET Support fix for Rational Robot 7.0.3.1.


  1. Uninstall Rational Robot through the IBM Installation Manager.


  2. Ignore the errors.


  3. Delete the group package folder, by default \RationalSDLC .


  4. Install Rational Robot 7.0.3.1 without the .NET Support option.


  5. Contact IBM Rational Support and ask for the .NET Support fix.

  6. Apply the fix. The readme.txt describes how.

  7. Update Rational Robot to the fix level that you want.
