Problem
This technote identifies a potential cause and resolution to the error, Unable to generate the HTML document, which might occur when opening a document in IBM Rational RequisitePro RequisiteWeb (ReqWeb).
Symptom
The full error message is as follows:
Unable to generate the HTML document: com.rational.rjcb.ComException: HRESULT=0x80044e8b: RqWebDoc.Application.GenerateHTMLDoc: Error Creating HTML document. Unable to copy the word file to the temporary directory.
Error creating HTML document. Unable to copy the word file to the temporary directory.
Document path names:
Source directory: <unc path to project folder>
Temp directory: <path to folder that is used to convert document to html>
Destination directory: <path to folder where session info and document in html format are temporarily stored>
Destination HTML path: <path to the document that is in html format>
Cause
This error often occurs when the document that is being opened has been locked by the file system.
Resolving The Problem
To resolve this issues, perform the following steps on the RequisiteWeb Server:
- Navigate to the directory listed in the Temp directory section of the error message
- Delete the directory and retry the opening of the document through ReqWeb
Note: The Temp directory is created when a user logs into RequisiteWeb, also the document that is converted to html is stored there.
Note: Sometimes files in the Temp directory become locked by the file system. The only way to unlock the files is to reboot the system. If the system is rebooted, delete all the folders located in the GenDoc directory which is listed in the destination directory of the error message.
