Error code 32787 When Running SRM Testfailover

Troubleshooting

Problem

When running SRM testfailover, error code 32787 is received.

Symptom

When doing SRM/SRA test failover, the following error is received:

Error - Failed to create snapshots of replica devices. Failed to create snapshot of replica consistency group xxxxxxxx. SRA command 'testFailoverStart' failed for consistency group xxxxxxxx. Volume cannot be created, please check test mdiskgroup configuration Refer to IBM SAN Volume Controller Troubleshooting.

The SRA log shows the error is accompanied by error code 32787.

Resolving The Problem

Return code 32787 means "cannot set both real size bytes and real size percent." The error code 32787 is caused by a known issue at SVC/Storwize 7.6.x code. At 7.6.x, the CIMOM service will create a thin-provision volume by default when SRA is requesting to create a volume, while prior to 7.6, the default operation is to create a standard volume. SRA will pass a RealSizeByte to CIMOM to create a thin-provision volume, but in 7.6.1 CIMOM by default uses a RealSizePercent parameter to create thin-provision volume. Therefore, these two parameters are conflicted and cannot be accepted at one command, which causes error 32787.

The workaround is to choose the Standard Volume in the SRA Configuration Utility, so that SRA will request to create a standard volume, and CIMOM will create a thin-provision volume in the storage system. This CIMOM issue was fixed in 7.6.1.5 and 7.7 codes.
