Problem
When you are trying to attach a file to a record in Maximo, you may encounter an error using firefox/edge/chrome browsers :
The browse function is not supported on this browser.
In your browser, enable the property Include local directory path when uploading files to a server option under security settings.
It is happening for some users in Maximo.
Resolving The Problem
There are some items to check on this case that normally cause this issue.
One possibility could be a data restriction or condition preventing Maximo to access data in SYNONYMDOMAIN (like for example having Data Restrictions on Global Restrictions in Security Group, depending on what tables are involved), as there is an internal code to allow file attachment to function as below.
You can check in the database by running this:
select * from synonymdomain where ((value= 'FILE' ) and (domainid = 'URLTYPE' ))
There could be other scenarios where the user experiencing this issue does not see this in all applications, and could be caused by not having a Default Insert Site configured in the User Profile, for example.
To correct this issue, the user that you are trying to add the attachment with, must have a default insert site specified within the User application.
After inserting a default insert site, please sign out, close the browser, and sign back into Maximo.
Go into the same application, access a record and try to click the paperclip and Add a new file this time.
You should now be able to attach files (Add new file Attachments) without any errors.
