Error 8301: Sequence already exists in the database

Troubleshooting

Problem

Application run time errors such as "cannot read system catalog (syssequences), no record found" start occurring. Attempts to recreate the sequence return "error 8301: Sequence already exists in the database". You then attempt to drop the problematic sequence, however the same "Cannot read system catalog (syssequences), no record found" is returned.

Symptom

"cannot read system catalog (syssequences), no record found"
