Problem

When you save a document using the Edit Online feature of Rational RequisiteWeb on Microsoft® Internet Explorer 8, 64-bit version, it fails with an error message stating that there was a file permission error.

Symptom

Error message:

5487: Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error

Saving the document again displays a warning that there is a newer version of the document on the server.

Cause

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, 64-bit version, security settings affects the way RequisiteWeb integrates with Microsoft Word.

Resolving The Problem

The problem can be fixed by updating to a newer version of Microsoft Internet Explorer (8.0.6001.18702 or later) or by using another supported browser.
