Problem
Informix® Dynamic Server™ (IDS): This article provides advice on how to avoid long transactions so that you will no longer get error message "458: Long transaction aborted" or the message "Aborting Long Transactions".
Symptom
Front end application will receive an error. For example, dbaccess will display this message on COMMIT WORK:
458: Long transaction aborted.
A message "Aborting Long Transaction" will be seen in the Message Log "online.log". For example:
10:39:25 Aborting Long Transaction: tx 0xa164a0c username: informix uid: 201
Event alarm class message 22 "Long Transaction Detected" will also be sent to the alarm program.
