Troubleshooting
Problem
This technote explains an error that can occur when upgrading IBM® Rational® RequistePro® (ReqPro) version 2003.06.16 to version 7.0. The Microsoft® Windows® Installer cannot continue when upgrading RequisitePro 2003.06.16 to version 7.0
Cause
Due to a file shipped in RequisitePro, version 2003.06.16, that has a higher version number than it's counterpart in version 7.0, that file is not marked to be upgraded as part of the upgrade process. Subsequently, that file was removed from the system as part of the major upgrade processes. The file is not re-installed at that point because it has already been marked by the installer for no action to be taken.
To reproduce this issue, when running the RequisitePro installation program:
- Then the installer will prompt the user for RequisitePro install disk.
- Insert the disk and click OK in the dialog window.
- After a few seconds, the following error will appear:
Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product. ... The windows installer cannot continue.
- Click OK in the error message dialog window.
- The installer will start to roll back the upgrade and then exit.
- Then the installer starts up again and repeats the scenario described in steps 1-5 above.
Note: After the second install is initiated and completes, RequisitePro will function as expected. However, the above situation will occur each time a user starts RequisitePro.
This issue is known to occur on both English and Japanese versions of Windows.
Resolving The Problem
There are two methods of upgrading that will result in a successful upgrade from IBM Rational RequisitePro, version 2003.06.16, without any install or runtime errors.
A CD install of IBM Rational RequisitePro version 7.0, immediately followed by an install of iFix06 or later will result in a successful upgrade from 2003.06.16 (SR6) without any install or runtime errors.
OR
Perform an install of RequisitePro, version 7.0, from a release area which contains RequisitePro iFix06 or later.
