EQQ0521E SORT FAILURE FOR WORK DATA SET: LTOCIN

Troubleshooting

Problem

The documentation (dump and correlated LTP joblog) show that an abend 0039 occurs 5 seconds after LTMOA job is started.

    USER COMPLETION CODE=0039
    914              TIME=19.10.39  SEQ=40424  CPU=0000  ASID=0054
    914              PSW AT TIME OF ERROR  078D1000   8E3AE288  ILC 2  INTC 0D
    914                NO ACTIVE MODULE FOUND
    914                NAME=UNKNOWN

It is due to the SORT parms an ALL MEMORY sort is being done and the amount of memory is insufficient:
  DFSORT steps shows
 ICE039A H INSUFFICIENT MAIN STORAGE - ADD AT LEAST 16K BYTES
 ICE751I 1 DE-I58435 D5-I58435 D3-I58435 E8-I58435
 ICE052I 0 END OF DFSORT

Cause

The main issue is that DFSORT is trying to do the sort all in MEMORY instead of using the sort work file.

Resolving The Problem

REMOVE the REGION parameter and increase the size of the SORT WORK
datasets. DFSORT APARs mentioned below should be applied.
.
The ICE039A that will be resolved by the APAR PH19006.
------------
PH19006 has this LOCAL FIX:
 LOCAL FIX:
 BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION:
This intermittent ICE039A was circumvented by passing DFSORT
 the MAINSIZE parameter at run-time:
.
 //DFSPARM DD *
  OPTION MAINSIZE=nM
------------
.
In APAR PH25574 is reported:
------------
If you have a single job with an ICE039A message and you want to
**TEMPORARILY** turn off the use of ZHPF for DFSORT Sort Work
Data Sets you can do so with the following JCL:

//DFSPARM   DD   *
  DEBUG $ZEXCP$=OFF
/*
...
------------
Try the DFSPARM bypasses could help if the APAR is still not applied.
