Question & Answer

Question

Envelope Conversion Services

Answer

Envelope Conversion Services

With envelope conversion services Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork canconvert your EDI envelopes (interchange and functional group) fromone type to another type within the same standard. Both the headerand trailer segments are converted without changing the body of thedata. (These services are sometimes called header remaps.)

Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork can:

  • Change the information in the header fields of the interchangeand functional group envelopes.
  • Convert a BG/EG to an ISA/IEA or ICS/ICE envelope.
  • Convert an ISA/ISE to a BG/EG or ICS/ICE envelope.
  • Convert an ICS/ICE to a BG/EG or ISA/ISE envelope.
  • Remove the incoming header and trailer so the data begins withonly the GS segment and ends with the GE segment.
  • Remove the PRH header and PRT trailer.
  • Remove the XPH header and XPT trailer.
  • Add a BG/EG ISA/ISE or ICS/ICE header and trailer to data usingonly GS/GE segments.

Envelope conversion is available to Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork customerswho use the ANSI X12 or the UCS standard. Your data must conform tothe requirements of your standard.

When you contact Customer Support to request envelope conversionhave the following information available:

  • Document type or types you and your partners trade
  • Sender ID
  • Receiver ID
  • New header type needed

Sender and Receiver ID Conversion

In the interchange header Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork canconvert:

  • The sender ID to a different ID
  • The receiver ID to a different ID
  • Both the sender and receiver IDs to different IDs

For example you may want this conversion if you use the carboncopy service to send a copy of an interchange to another receiveror division in your company.

To request this service contactCustomer Support. You will need to tell them the old and the new senderand receiver IDs you want to use.

Filename Preservation

Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork cancapture filenames when processing EDI and non-EDI data through thenetwork and can retain the filename through to the end destination.

Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork makesevery effort to carry the original filename with the data. Howeverthe name will be limited by length and character set. Different datapaths into and out of Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork havedifferent limitations. In addition a valid unique name on the sender'ssystem may be invalid or non-unique on the recipient's system. Tradingpartners will need to agree upon and use compatible names. Testingof a given data path with representative file names must be done beforeit is used for production data.

IBM? recommends the followingwhen choosing filenames:

  • Keep names to less than 256 characters.
  • Do not rely on case sensitivity for unique names. (assume Data.txtmay be the same as data.txt)
  • Try to limit names to alpha-numeric characters and avoid startinga name with a digit.
  • At a minimum avoid these 9 characters:
    • < (less than)
    • > (greater than)
    • : (colon)
    • * (asterisk)
    • ? (question mark)
    • | (vertical bar)
    • \ (back slash)
    • / (forward slash)
    • " (double quote)
