Engine unable to reliably connect when using Oracle RAC SCAN IPs

Troubleshooting


Problem

If you are using an Engine instance which connects to an Oracle RAC cluster via Oracle SCAN (Single Client Access Name) you may find that the Engine is unable to connect to the database. An error such as below may be seen in the Engine log: ODBC [08001] [InitiateSystems][ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver][Oracle]TNS-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor (DBError=-1)
