IBM Support

Encoder and Decoder for ASN.1 types in Systems Tester

Question & Answer

Question

Does IBM Rational Systems Tester automatically find the right Encoder or Decoder for imported ASN.1 types?

Answer

Systems Tester does not automatically find the right Encoder or Decoder for imported ASN.1 types.

When there are ASN.1 definitions imported into TTCN-3, Tester automatically invokes all needed ASN.1 tools and generates both BER and PER encoders and decoders for all the ASN.1 definitions.

ASN.1 types can be imported in to TTCN-3 with or without specifying encoding attributes.

If any of the encoding attributes like...
BER:1997”, with variant: “length form 3", “PER-BASIC-ALIGNED:1997”/ “PER BASIC-UNALIGNED:1997 is specified when the compiler generates all the supported variations of PER and BER encoders in separate files.

The type of encoder PER/ BER has to be manually specified.
