Enabling logging for Pentaho Data Integrator (Kettle)

Question & Answer

Question

How do I enable logging for the Pentaho Data Integrator?

Answer

To enable jdbc logging for the Pentaho Data Integrator (also known as PDI and formerly known as Kettle) in Spoon, do the following according to Pentaho® recommendations
1. Start Spoon as you normally do.
2. Right-click the database connection that you have set up.
3. Select Options. The Parameters/Values dialog box appears. For a default installation, there are no values listed.
4. In the Parameter field, enter logLevel.
5. In the corresponding value field, enter 2.

This will set up a log (JDBC debug level 2) that is saved to the default TEMP directory. The filename will be similar to the following: nzjdbc_2008-12-15_16-19-33.236.log.
